The 2010 season has just started for mix1-sponsored Riptide Multisports. They’re off to a great start! Team member Dan MacKenzie provides a recap of the team’s early season success:
It has been less than a week since the last flakes of snow finally left the Denver area, but members of the Riptide Multisports team have already raced in 5 states and 3 countries this year, posting solid results. Jordan Jones and Amy Dannwolf got the season off to a good start in mid-January with matching wins at Frosty's Frozen 5K at Chatfield State Park, and the two followed up their success with top 20 finishes at the competitive 3M Austin Half Marathon the following week. Cyrus Severance also ran an impressive half marathon, finishing in the top 25 at a San Francisco race in early February.
With March came the start of the triathlon season, and most of the team headed down to Mazatlan, Mexico, for a highly competitive ITU Pan American Cup race. Jordan Jones led the Riptide finishers, using a blazing 10K run to race to 11th place overall and becoming one of the top 25 Americans in the ITU world rankings. Meanwhile, on the same weekend, Tate Behning raced to a 2nd place finish at the Lake Havasu Triathlon in Arizona. Following these early season successes, the team hunkered down for a block of solid training leading up to the prime race season, which began this past weekend. At the Wildflower Triathlon in California, Josh Merrick and Matt Balzer both turned in solid performances on a very difficult course. Meanwhile, at the prestigious Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, Jordan Jones missed a top 10 finish by a matter of seconds, and Amy Dannwolf raced her way into 8th place overall.

The first few months of 2010 have started well for Riptide, but the bulk of the season is still ahead. Next on tap for most of the team will be the Littlefoot Triathlon, held on May 16, after which Riptide athletes will be competing in Maryland, Tennessee, Texas, Iowa, and Quebec over the following month. It promises to be a busy summer for Riptide.
We're looking forward to the rest of the 2010 season, more great results, and the new riptide/mix1 uniforms!
